Ren-Hung Hwang is Chair Professor and Vice President of Asia University, Taiwan, and Professor and Former Dean of the College of Artificial Intelligence at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University (NYCU), where he leads the Artificial Intelligence and Networking Technology (AINT) Laboratory. He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1993. He spent nearly three decades at National Chung Cheng University. There, he served as Distinguished Professor, Dean of the College of Engineering, Chief Information Officer, and Chair of both the Department of Computer Science and the Department of Communications Engineering. He served as Dean of the NYCU College of Artificial Intelligence from 2022 to 2025.

His research focuses on LLM-based cybersecurity, including LLM-driven active deception, LLM/AI agents for security operations, and the security of LLM-based systems, as well as AI-enabled cyber defense such as network intrusion detection and cyber threat intelligence. He also works on trustworthy AI, IoT and smart grid security, and next-generation networks, including B5G/6G mobile networks, mobile edge computing, and the AI of Things. He is a co-author of the textbook Computer Networks: An Open Source Approach and holds patents on early detection of malicious flows.

Dr. Hwang serves as Convener of the Telecommunications Engineering Program of Taiwan’s National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) and President of the Taiwan Association of Cloud Computing. He is an Associate Editor of IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials and IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology. His honors include the K.T. Li Breakthrough Award, the IEEE ComSoc Exemplary Editor Award, and the IEEE VTS Top Performing Editor Award. He has also been listed among the Stanford/Elsevier World’s Top 2% Scientists for six consecutive years (2020–2025), on both the career-long and single-year lists.
